April 2021 Update : Junior Divisions

Let’s Play Ball!

We are so excited to begin our Spring 2021 CVI Season for our Jr. Divisions this month!  While the season will look different than before, and there will, of course, be many COVID-related restrictions, the kids will be able to get out and play ball!  Thank you to our CVI families for your patience, support, and flexibility. We are so happy to be able to get our CVI Community back on the fields!

COVID Safety Procedures

Attached are the highlights of our Safety Guidelines for the season as well as some additional resources where you can get more information.  As Alameda County tiers and requirements continue to change, updates will be made to the document, which will be available on our website. Thank you for continuing to keep the safety of our CVI players and families as our highest priority.

Welcome to TeamSnap!

While our website - cvisportsleague.org - will still have some informational flyers posted, CVI is now using TeamSnap as our primary tool for team and group communication, scheduling, electronic health screening, and more. It does have a web-based feature but an even better app for managers, parents, players and fans to easily connect!  You will receive an invitation to join soon, and once you accept, you will have access to all the information about your 2021 Spring team. More info will be coming about the online health screener each player must complete before attending each practice and game.

Coaches & Team Coordinators’ Meeting

Our one and only (and, therefore, mandatory) Coaches’ Meeting will be held virtually this coming Wed., 4/7, at 7pm.  The Zoom link will be sent to coaches separately.  At least ONE representative from each team must attend for important information for this very unique season. Please mark your calendars now!

Schedules/Practices

Games will begin the week of April 12.  The official game schedules have been posted in TeamSnap. All games that are scheduled should be played on the date and time the game is assigned. Practice schedules are being confirmed and coaches will send out more info soon.

Good Sportsmanship

As the season starts, we want to focus on good sportsmanship amongst our coaches, players, and spectators. Please remember this is recreational baseball during a pandemic. CVI’s goal is to provide a positive atmosphere that gives regional youth the opportunity to participate in a team sport, and to learn the physical and mental aspects of the game of baseball.   CVI requires that ALL parents, guardians, and frequent spectators sign a Parent & Spectator Code of Conduct before the start of the season. If you have not signed a Parent & Spectator Code of Conduct - your Team Coordinator or Team Manager will ask that you complete one. Individuals with a profile in TeamSnap will be able to access and complete the Form/Acknowledgement directly on the TeamSnap App.

Unsportsmanlike conduct from players, managers, and spectators will not be tolerated and suspensions from the field will occur.  We have lost more umpires due to parent behavior more than any other factor, so we have instructed our umps to offer the first warning of unsportsmanlike behavior to the manager, and then if the behavior continues, the spectator, player, or coach will be suspended from play.  We appreciate all of you who strive to make all of our players’ and families’ experiences positive and remember that we’re all here to have fun.

Parking & Pets

NO parking is available for managers, coaches, or CVI families on Marshall School’s campus. Please respect our neighbors near Marshall and do not park in their driveways or in fire lanes.  Also, please remember that pets are NOT allowed at the fields, according to CVUSD rules. Please let all family members that may be visiting know that their pets are not allowed on the grounds at either Canyon or Marshall Fields.

Oakland A’s Partnership
We continue our partnership with the Oakland A's, and we appreciate them for their ongoing support even with the many changes in their program as well as ours.  Thank you to the Future A’s program for sponsoring CVI baseball!

CVI Sponsorship                                                                                                                                       We are actively looking for 2021 Season Sponsors!  Becoming a CVI sponsor is a great way to promote your local business or cause in the community and to support our local young people in athletics!  If you’d like more details, please contact our Sponsorship Coordinator, Jon Foster -

Get Involved

In order to keep our League going for years to come, we need you and we are always looking for help from our community. We have several open positions available on our Board, including B-Division Coordinator and Purchaser.  If you would like to join the CVI Board in an open position, we’d be glad to explain more about the responsibilities of the open roles. Please contact me, Armando Aguirre, at or Vice President Kate Shen at .

Contact info and other important dates can be found on your TeamSnap app, on our website cvisportsleague.org, and on our social media pages on Facebook @CVI Castro Valley Independent Sports League and Instagram @cvisportsleague4kids. Thanks, as always, for your support of CVI! Let’s FINALLY play ball!

April 2021 Update: Upper Divisions

Dear Upper Division CVI Families,

Let’s Play Ball!

We are so excited to begin phasing in our Spring 2021 CVI Season, beginning with our Junior Divisions followed by our Intermediate and Senior Divisions!  While the season will look different than before, and there will, of course, be many COVID-related restrictions, the kids will be able to get out and play ball!  Thank you to our CVI families for your patience, support, and flexibility. We are so happy to be able to get our CVI Community back on the fields!

Upper Division Details

Registration for Intermediate and Senior is open until Thursday, April 8.  We are taking Buddy Requests in all divisions this season.

Our plan is to have at least four teams for both an Intermediate Division for 13-14 year olds and a Senior Division for 15-16 year olds; however, that plan may need to be adjusted based on how many players register.  Depending on the numbers, we are able to be very flexible in these upper divisions; we just want to give kids the chance to get out to the fields and play some baseball!

High school players who are currently playing in another sport cohort but are interested in playing rec baseball are encouraged to register.  With the change in Alameda County COVID tiers, we anticipate cohort restriction to be changed soon.  High school players who are playing baseball for their respective schools will also be able to join a rec team once their high school season is completed.

We plan to begin practice for our upper divisions in mid-April, begin games in May, and play through mid-June. While we continue to work with CVUSD to get Canyon into playable condition in order to get permits cleared, we are also working to coordinate a practice schedule for teams at both Marshall Field in Castro Valley and Centennial Field in Hayward.

COVID Safety Procedures                                                                                                                                   Attached are the highlights of our Safety Guidelines for the season as well as some additional resources where you can get more information.  As Alameda County tiers and requirements continue to change, updates will be made to the document, which will be available on our website. We will also be utilizing an electronic health screener through our league’s new communication tool, TeamSnap. Thank you for continuing to keep the safety of our CVI players and families as our highest priority.

More important info will be sent out after registration closes and teams are formed.  Updates can be found on our website cvisportsleague.org, and on our social media pages on Facebook @CVI Castro Valley Independent Sports League and Instagram @cvisportsleague4kids.  Thanks, as always, for your support of CVI! Let’s FINALLY play ball!

Sincerely,
Your CVI Board
